A Rainy, Sweet Surprise: Ella & Garrett’s Proposal
It was such an honor to capture this beautiful engagement. Ella is one of my youngest sister’s high school friends, so this one felt extra special to be apart of and to photograph.
Garrett had reached out to me a few days before to ask if I could help him pull off a surprise proposal. Of course, I said yes! We met up at Lock Ridge Park in Alburtis, Pennsylvania so he could pass off some custom cookies, a picnic basket, and a bouquet of flowers. We walked through the plan together, step-by-step.

On the big day, I hid with my assistant in the bushes, camera ready… and then — it started to rain, so it truly wasn’t my best look… aka I looked like a drowned rat by the end. (Funny enough, it also rained on their wedding day months later — right up until minutes before the ceremony. A little foreshadowing, maybe?)
When Ella and Garrett arrived, we could see them, but they couldn’t see us. The moment unfolded perfectly — Garrett got down on one knee, and we captured the entire thing from a distance. It was quiet, personal, and so incredibly sweet.
Every time I photograph a proposal or engagement session, I’m reminded of something powerful — especially for women who are dating and not sure about where it’s going:
If he wanted to, he would.
Really. He will.
Seeing a young guy plan something so thoughtful, so personal, is a reminder to never settle. Choose someone who values you… not just in the big moments, but everyday.
Ella and Garrett’s proposal is just beginning, and I’m so grateful to have been there for the first chapter… and hint: their wedding day blog post is coming next because it was a stunner!
